VPP stands for Volume Purchase Plan at Apple

As specialists in the mobile app space, we are also able to publish via VPP (Volume Purchase Plan) at Apple. It is a channel intended for organizations that require full control around who installs and uses their App, and Apple have particularly firm requirements for the VPP.

A valid D-U-N-S number is required by Apple and is used by client to get a corporate AppleID. This is currently limited to D&B listed companies in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, United Kingdom, and United States.

An App intended for VPP must be submitted along with the corporate AppleID of the client company for Apple review prior to publishing. Once approved, unique codes are generated for each individual installation of the App and the App is not visible to the general public on iTunes.

Example: A research firm wanted its mobile interviewing agents to use iPhones to conduct face-to-face interviews nationwide. Creating the App was the easy part! Ensuring only their agents' devices would have the App was what set us apart. Having the App approved by Apple's Enterprise team meant it was now only available via unique codes generated for each individual installation of the App: an air-tight solution ensuring only this client firm would be able to view and manage 360 degree accountability around how, where, and by whom their App was being used.

MDM stands for Mobile Device Mangement

Often times, organizations have a need to monitor remotely installed Apps.

Each device must have install a security certificate (done via SMS or an email (or manually before shipping the device if that is the case)) and this gives the organization the ability to monitor the said device from anywhere in the world.

This also gives the organization the ability to delete its App from the said device - remotely. And indeed effectively controls the device fully so the entire content can be remotely erased. Or new Apps can be remotely pushed to the device - without the user having to manually install the new App.

Usage of MDM is by nature bespoke and is typically used by organizations that hand out iOS devices to employees.
